General:
Perennial herb from a tuberous root; stems usually solitary, erect, glabrous 5-15 cm tall.
Leaves:
Stem leaves 2-5, clustered near the stem-base, once-divided in threes, glabrous, with a bloom, the leaflets lobed.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of terminal racemes with 2-6 flowers; corollas blue to bluish-purple, 15-22 mm long; spurs 6-10 mm long.
Fruits:
Podlike capsules, thin, more or less straight, 1-2 cm long, only slightly constricted or not at all; seeds 1.5 mm long, black, shiny.

Habitat / Range

Wet to moist meadows and seepage sites in the subalpine and alpine zones; infrequent in N BC; amphiberingian, N to AK, YT and SW NT; Asia.
